The Membrane Lab Technician executes daily operations for Kurita America, Inc., sales orders under the direction of the Manager, Membrane Services (Manager). This role tracks multiple assigned sales orders from open to close to meet production requirements for each type of service.

Responsibilities

  • Check in and track incoming samples/equipment for services, work with the Manager to confirm work needed and request purchase orders when applicable.
  • Collect, normalize, interpret data, and draft scientific reports that identify issues related to reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for review by the Manager/Membrane Analysts.
  • Compile photos and analysis results into the proper storage locations.
  • Track multiple projects at a time while sorting and saving collected data in the assigned digital library files.
  • Perform daily tasks and facility upkeep as specified by the Manager/Membrane Analysts.
  • Communicate and coordinate with team members on required tasks.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to ensure proper techniques are performed at the highest level.
  • Keeps files and records in an orderly manner such that any person can easily locate data, reports, photos, and other pertinent information regarding a work order.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean lab environment.
  • Performs routine maintenance to all equipment excluding the SEM/EDS
  • Keeps inventory of lab supplies (e.g. gloves, reagents, cleaners, hose, etc.)
  • Accurately log new samples, cut, and harvest membranes samples, perform a variety of wet chemistry and analytical techniques, such as but not limited to FTIR, EDS and Chromatic Elemental ImagingSM to identify membrane foulants.
  • Perform membrane/filter/foulant dissections, sample collection, and foulant analysis procedures.
  • Perform various wet chemistry techniques including, but not limited to, Ion Chromatography, ICP-OES, titration, filtration study, particle count/turbidity testing, salt/chemical solution mixing.
  • Perform laboratory cleaning studies under supervision and instruction.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or other related science or equivalent work experience. [may substitute 1 year of education with 2 years of experience]
  • Wet chemistry exposure.
  • Effective communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work with basic power tools (e.g., drill, saw).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and/or equivalents
  • This position is subject to logistics and/or chemical handling training, including those regulated by Federal, State, and City agencies which may include: the Department of Transportation (D.O.T), IATA, and IMO, and specific to Class 8 Corrosive products. Avista will provide the required training via qualified thirdparty entities
